Lot 31. Magnificent Unofficial Great Britain
Pattern in Copper. Struck in 2000-2001, the this coin depicts the bust
of King George VI, with a Double Florin reverse, dated 1937. Great
classic looks, brilliant Proof finish and terrific condition.
Mintage of just 360 pieces and part of the "Patina"
Collection sold at Spink's in London, England, in July 2001.
This design was part of a huge project initiated in
1999 with the idea of producing an official series of six legal tender
Millennial coins for a Commonwealth country, which would feature all six
British monarchs of the XXth Century: Victoria, Edward VII, George V, Edward
VIII, George VI and Elizabeth II. The project was not successful
with only two portraits ever being used. Reserve: $15.00
