Lot 1. Switzerland
Book & Coins Combo Deal. Yes, yet another Great WINS
Auction Special, brought to you by GBIE -- the unequivocal masters
of the becoming World renowned Book & Coin combo deals.
You know the drill. Buy the Book, get the Coins, buy the
Coins, get the Book. A WINning Combination to be sure.
The Book: "The Coinage
of Switzerland 1850 to Date," by Robert L. Clarke, First Edition,
1968. A good unused, softcover, 64-page booklet, printed
on glossy stock with plenty of high quality photos of the various
coin types.
The Coins: Silver,
Silver & more Silver -- in three convenient denominations.
Topping the list is a Wartime, 1944 dated, 2 Francs piece, followed
by an example of the ever-popular 1 Franc bearing a date of 1960
& finally the dime-sized 1/2 Franc minted, as only the Swiss
can, in 1964. Each coin features the Star encircled Standing
Helvetia design and on the flip side the coins proudly proclaim their
face value, date & mint mark. The coins grade from low to
high end extra fine or better, respectively, some starting to show their
age with a bit of not too heavy tarnish.
What a great combo
deal -- and that's the untarnished truth. Reserve: $9.95

Khusro II captured territory into the Holy Land and looted the

Obverse: Crowned bust of Khusro II

Sapur II was made king while still an infant, thus helping to
explain his 70 year reign.
Until he became of age at 16, the state was ruled by a special
council under the nominal
chairmanship of his mother (Gobl: 1971). Sapur II was the
only Sasanian ruler who could
truly compete against the well trained armies of Rome.
