The Newman Numismatic Portal
Tom Babinszki, WINS#919

I was at the 2015 World's Fair of Money when I first heard about the Bibliomania Society. I went to their annual meeting, where I learned about the Newman Numismatic Portal. This has changed my life. I would like to share this information with you, as I think this portal can be an excellent tool of numismatic research.

The Newman Numismatic Portal (NNP) is at the Washington University in St. Louis. Their goal is to digitize numismatic literature, and as they state on their web site, to become the most comprehensive resource for numismatic research.

The idea is to create a searchable database of literature, which contains books, catalogs, periodicals, auction catalogs, an encyclopedia which consists of over 25000 records, numismatic people, etc.

At this point they mostly concentrate on US numismatics, given the number of periodicals they have digitized, it can also be helpful when researching world coins.

The portal is available to all people, no registration is necessary, just go to Newman Numismatic Portal. The portal has a search function where you can quickly search all digitized materials. In addition, you can browse the library by categories, currently books, people, encyclopedia, blog, auction companies, periodicals.

On the main page you can also find quick statistics which at any given time, contains the current number of items in the database by categories.

Next time you are researching something in numismatics, give the portal a try.
