Several weeks ago, a member asked about WINS' policy on the external use of our written articles. The member desired to utilize articles which were written by WINS members and which appear on the WINS Library Page of our web site. This was the first time we'd ever had an inquiry of this nature. The Board of Directors thoroughly discussed the issue because we had no direct policy on the topic. We now have a written policy for the use of these articles and other WINS' data. The first thing we did was modify each article page that we host by adding to the top of those pages a WINS Header and a few appropriate WINS Web Site links. Then to the bottom of each page, we added the copyright information and our Legal Notices link. We also placed the notice "If you wish to link to the WINS Library or any of its contents, please contact the Operations Administrator" at the bottom of the Library Page. The following paragraph, excerpted from our Legal Page, was modified slightly by adding the last sentence which, in essence, is the same as the above sentence as it was added to the Library Page.
USE OF SITE As you can see, our policy for internet or intranet use of our articles - as well as any other WINS Web Site content - is to *link* to the information. The primary reason for this policy is to share our information and knowledge by enticing people to visit the WINS Web Site, or at least to visit a page on the WINS Web Site. If someone clicks on a link at a foreign web site that takes him/her to a WINS article, that person may further explore our site. Once they are here, they'll see our WINS Header and have access to other, internal WINS links. We're proud of WINS and our website. And we encourage others to coordinate with our Webmaster and link to our articles and other data. Hopefully sharing our articles/information via links will cause more interest in our club and help recruit more members. As you're all aware, the second Special Election for WINS Treasurer and a seat on the Board of Directors concluded on April 18th at 9:00 PM MST. Congratulations to Mr. Ken Hughes, our new Treasurer. Ken will serve the balance of the current, unexpired term of Treasurer through October 15, 2005. WINS TREASURER VOTING RESULTS
All voting members were verified; two members used incorrect member numbers,
but their names matched email addresses on file and the votes were allowed;
one member/voter neglected to make a candidate selection, therefore the vote
was counted in the totals as a blank; there was one duplicate, discarded
vote. JD White, Operations Administrator, has updated the listing of the Board of Directors and added a photo of our newly elected Treasurer on the WINS "About Us" page. Ken Hughes is in the process of acquiring the WINS funds and financial records from our former Treasurer. Ken will open a new PayPal account and a new checking account once the funds are in hand. A sincere THANK YOU to both Ken and Mr. Fred Blake for running for the office of Treasurer. Both members were very qualified candidates, and WINS is lucky to have had their interest in filling the position. Thanks, too, to our Secretary, Dave Noble, for filling-in as interim Treasurer. And a hardy thanks to all of the active members who took the time to place a vote. WINS continues to move forward. Thanks to the initiation efforts of Lawrence Oei, our Operations Administrator, JD White, has created an opt-in Member Page on our web site. The new page is for those Active Members who would like to share their numismatic interests. The page features a roster of names, WINS member numbers, region/country of residence, and collecting interests. There's even an option to post your photo if you send an updated picture to JD White. Within the text, you may also list a long-term link for a Show and Tell or to an online page with images of your collection. Fifteen members are already listed. The Member Page may be viewed: HERE. Congratulation to WINS member Howard Spindel who won an Exhibit Award at the Spring Portland, Oregon ANA show. His First Place award in the Class 6 Science category was titled, "Die Stages of 1883/2 Shield Nickels. In addition to his recognition at the show, Howard was recognized for his award on page thirty-six of the April 26, 2004 edition of the Coin World newspaper. Howard also has a credited photo and link to his Shield Nickel web site listed near the top of the CONECA internet home page. Good job, Howard! As this is written, we have another great WINS Auction shaping up. The auction will commence the same day this newsletter is published. Please take a look at :Auction 21 and consider placing some bids. It's fun!
