I wanted to say a few words about the auctions, and Tom has allowed me a little space in the newsletter to do so. As I mentioned in an email to the lists earlier, I received a few requests to once again extend the auctions from one week to two weeks to allow more time for buyers to participate. Since we do have the good weather coming up, it may not be a bad idea to once again give it a try. I think a fifteen- item limit is still good, or should we allow up to twenty items per seller? I would invite any and all comments on the subject as I am looking to make the auctions a little more interesting for both buyers and sellers.

I would also like to suggest to those that might be able to get out and about, in the past I would make a trip or two to my local coin shop and pick up a few items for the auctions. Some of our members may be unable to physically get out to purchase new items or live in areas far from any coin stores or shows. The auction has always been a place where members could share with other members, not always to make a profit, but to make available things for members that they might not have the opportunity to purchase elsewhere.

I plan to start shopping around for some items myself, my intent is not to make money but to offer some items that others may be interested in and would otherwise not be able to purchase. I usually set the reserve close to my paying price and I don’t believe I have ever lost money. I do have a few items in my own collection that I might part with also, so if you have the time to browse around maybe pick up a few things for the upcoming auction. I plan on getting the word out earlier for the next auction, I will also keep sending out more frequent reminders, so we all have a good chance to participate.

We have plenty of room on the talk list to discuss your ideas pertaining to the auction so if you have any questions or comments please feel free to post. I will also make a better effort to get things up and listed in a preview to give sellers more time to verify their selling information. I would like to give the two-week listing period a try once again this upcoming auction to see if we in fact have any more participation.
